Walking From Here

Faith as a daily walk, not a single moment.

If you have come this far, you have already done the hardest part, which is to begin honestly. But faith was never meant to be a single moment you have and then move on from. It is closer to a walk. A direction you keep choosing, one ordinary day at a time.

That is good news, because it means you do not have to get it all right today. You do not have to feel certain, or strong, or finished. You only have to keep walking in the same direction, and let the walking itself form you over time. Trees do not grow by straining. They grow by staying rooted and standing in the light, day after day. Something similar is true of a person.

The way to keep walking is not heroic effort but small, repeated practice. A few honest minutes with the words. A short, true prayer. One act of giving. A weight set down again when you find you have picked it back up. None of these are large. Done steadily, they become a life. I cannot promise you where the road leads or how you will feel along it. I can tell you, honestly, that I believe it is a road worth walking, and that you are the one who has to choose to take the next step.

So choose one small thing you can actually keep doing. Not everything. One thing. Faith does not grow by how much you start. It grows by what you stay faithful to.

One small action

Choose one small daily practice

Choose one small practice you can keep, starting now. One honest minute of prayer each morning. One short passage each day. One daily moment of giving or gratitude. Make it small enough that you will actually do it. Then begin tomorrow, and the day after that.
