Prayer sounds complicated, and people make it more so. We imagine it needs special words, the right posture, a holy voice we do not have. So we never start, because we are sure we will do it wrong. But prayer, underneath all of that, is simpler than we fear.
Prayer is telling the truth to God. That is the whole of it to begin with. Not performing, not impressing, not reciting something you half mean. Just speaking honestly to the One who is already there, about what is actually true in you. If you are grateful, say so. If you are angry or afraid or empty, say that. The oldest prayers in Scripture are full of raw honesty, complaint, and longing. God is not fragile, and you do not need to protect Him from your real life.
You do not need to believe perfectly to pray. You can pray as someone who is not even sure anyone is listening, and simply say so. That too is honest, and honesty is where this whole thing begins. Many people find that the act of speaking the truth out loud, even into apparent silence, changes something in them before any answer comes.
Start small. A sentence is enough. Prayer is not a skill you perform for a grade. It is a door you are always allowed to walk through, exactly as you are.

Say one short prayer in your own words, out loud or silently. No formula. Just tell the truth about where you are right now, even if that truth is doubt. If you do not know how to begin, begin with that: say that you do not know how to begin.
